Business Presentations



The technical program of eHealth 2008 will commence with an extensive Business Presentation Track including a series of individual presentations and panel discussions delivered by invited speakers from the corporate, governmental and regulatory sectors.

Speakers at the Business Presentation Track will cover a wide array of related topics including sector and trend analyses, business forecasts, presentations of specific products and their applications, evacuations of industry standards and proposals on solving the current business and regulatory challenges of the electronic healthcare industry.

The Business Presentation Track is planned to serve as a platform for interaction between the speakers and the audience of the event and is geared towards a discussion on practical applicability of specific products and business ideas. Research oriented theories and proposals with a more academic/scientific approach will be presented during the Position Paper Track organized on the second day of the conference.

Biography

As part of the Healthways International team, Mr. Tomsett has leadership of Healthways’ business Europe.

Prior to joining Healthways, Mr. Tomsett gained considerable business leadership experience from working across a broad range of industries and healthcare organizations. He held senior leadership positions within London Electricity, Guardian Insurance, PPP Healthcare and AXA Assistance.

Mr. Tomsett has worked within call centre and healthcare focused business for the last 16 years. In 1993 he managed London Electricity’s first dedicated London wide emergency service operation. In 1995 he established one of the first nurse led support services within the private insurance sector and in 1998 he was a member of the management team who established the UK’s first health and medical communications centre, Access 24 Ltd (now part of AXA Assistance UK).

Immediately prior to joining Healthways he was Chief Operating Officer of Serum Limited, an innovative and specialist company dedicated to the support of NHS patients with Long Term Conditions across a range of Primary Care Trusts within England.

Mr. Tomsett has a BA Honours degree in History from the University of East Anglia, UK.

Biography

Professor Dr. Georges J.E. De Moor studied Medicine and specialized in Clinical Pathology and Nuclear Medicine at the State University of Ghent (Belgium), where he also obtained in 1994 his PhD in Medical Information Science. He is head of the Department of Medical Informatics and Statistics at the State University of Ghent, Belgium, where he teaches Health Informatics, Medical Statistics, Decision Theory and Evidence Based Medicine. Dr. De Moor is also head of the Clinical Pathology Laboratory of the St-Elisabeth Hospital in Zottegem (since 2001).

As president of RAMIT (Research in Medical Informatics and Telematics), he has been involved in both European and International Research and Development projects (+85), as well as in Standardization activities. For seven years, Prof. De Moor acted as the Founding Chairman of CEN/TC251, the official Technical Committee on standardization in health informatics in Europe. He has been one of the initiators of ISO/TC 215.

As a result of the conducted research, Prof. De Moor has been founding or co-founding a number of companies and still acts either as director, chairman or C.E.O. (e.g. UltraGenda, Language and Computing, Excellencis, Gemaran and Custodix)

In 2004, he was elected President of the European Institute for Health Records (EuroRec) which is the de facto body for certification of Electronic Health Record systems in Europe(www.eurorec.org).

In Belgium, Prof. De Moor chairs a number of official Committees, among which the Health Telematics Committee of the Belgian Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, as well as a number of scientific and professional organizations.

He has edited seven books related to ICT in Health and published over 200 articles in scientific journals.

In 2005 he was awarded with the International Rory O’Moore Medal (presented by Bertie Ahern, in Dublin) for Health Informatics.

As President, Rose Higgins is responsible for developing the company's strategy, managing day-to-day operations, strengthening the company's infrastructure, developing products and services to meet the needs of new and emerging markets, and preparing the company for the future.

Higgins has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare including operational management, product development, technical marketing, project leadership, and clinical management. Ms. Higgins joined iMetrikus in 2000 as the VP of Product Development and has held executive roles in sales, marketing, and commercial operations prior to taking on the role of President in 2005.

Prior to joining iMetrikus, she served as the director of product marketing and information management for the Pyxis Corporation, a healthcare automation company and Cardinal Health subsidiary. Before joining Pyxis, she was an administrative director of medical management at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She graduated from Carnegie Mellon University (Heinz School) and Duquesne University School of Nursing.

Biography

As the Managing Director of the Cisco Internet Business Solutions Group (IBSG) Connected Health Practice, Kevin Dean and his team work with healthcare and public sector leaders to help them use technology to accelerate transformation of the healthcare industry.

Kevin has experience in numerous aspects of health IT strategy and execution, especially in large scale programs at the leading edge of health knowledge and information use. Kevin has experience in developing country-wide IT strategy in healthcare, for some of the world’s largest and most innovative healthcare and provider organizations. Today he is an advisory member of many Programme Boards including for example in the UK for NHS Direct, the NHS Institute for Innovation & Improvement & the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE). Kevin also has extensive experience outside the UK, working with his team supporting projects all over the European Union and with the European Commission & World Health Organisation (WHO).

Kevin has a BSc (Hons) in Engineering Science & Management from Durham University in England. Kevin has been involved in the healthcare & pharmaceutical industry since the early 1990s, working in procurement, supply chain management and large systems implementations.

Kevin edited and introduced a collection of essays from leading health IT thinkers (Thought Leaders: "Connected Health" published December 2003), setting out ideas, lessons and opportunities for networked healthcare based on real experience. Among many other papers, Kevin also edited and contributed to the White Paper on the use of Grid Technology in healthcare, jointly published with the Healthgrid Association, in 2004.

Biography

Tim has managed many large scale applications products development over many years. He founded the application product business for Honeywell in the UK, resulting in a successful product portfolio of 25 products across all business sectors. He set up and ran the financial planning products business for ICL and built a profitable team of 50 staff. He founded and managed his own PC Systems House for ten years, building it to an £8M turnover company. He has focused on security and identity management solutions sales and marketing for the past 15 years, and founded iTelecare in 2007 with two colleagues.

Biography

Justin started at BT in August 2006 and leads BT’s health strategy globally. He trained in medicine in London and also has a degree in molecular biology. He has worked at a number of teaching centers and was previously a hospital physician in the field of neurology

Since Justin has acquired eight years experience of health-IT in the business sector. After his work in the NHS Justin established and managed a health outcomes business and operated this as a BUPA Group Company. As Clinical Director at Outcome Technologies he designed, built and managed Health-IT solutions for health technology economic studies, clinical governance, and patient support programs.

Subsequently Justin worked on the UK NHS National Programme for IT (NPfIT) at Accenture as Clinical Business Architect and then in BT as a Clinical Informatician focusing on health record architectures and standards.

Justin now leads BT’s health strategy globally and is responsible for strategic partnership management.

Justin is a Visiting Professor at University College London, UCL, in the Centre for Health Informatics and Multiprofessional Education, CHIME. He has advised on the Brussels Round Table eHealth industry group on behalf of BT.

Biography

Michael Palmer is a project officer in the 'ICT for Health' Unit of the European Commission's Information Society & Media Directorate-General in Brussels. He is responsible for innovation policy within the unit, for eHealth market issues and for coordinating activities of EU member state eHealth representatives. Michael led the Commission-wide eHealth Task Force which contributed to the Commission's recently adopted 'Lead Market Initiative', which included a report on 'Accelerating the development of the eHealth market in Europe'. He also has experience in ICT, marketing, PR and brand consultancy in London and Brussels and has been an MEP assistant in the European Parliament.

Biography

Adrian Flowerday is Managing Director of Docobo Ltd, and a Chartered Engineer with over 20 years of experience developing technology based solutions for areas including radar, sonar, imaging and medical. Docobo was formed in 2001 to develop and market doc@HOME®, a telehealth platform enabling healthcare staff to manage patients with long term conditions in their own homes. Adrian has directed the development of the system as a qualified medical device, and developed the business offering to enable such a new concept to be successfully rolled out into mainstream practice within the NHS and other international healthcare systems. Docobo are contracted to the NHS PASA Telecare Framework Agreement
